The Origin Story

It all started with a hamster, a lawyer, and the UK government.

Preston Byrne, attorney for 4chan, became an internet legend when he began responding to Ofcom's regulatory fines with... hamster memes. When Ofcom fined 4chan, Byrne replied with a hamster joke. When Ofcom threatened a bigger fine, he promised them "a joke about a giant hamster."

That hamster? Nigel J. Whiskerford — giant-hamster-at-law. A character so iconic that Byrne changed his profile picture to a giant hamster towering over a city skyline, captioning it:
